Guitar F/X Licks - Thursday - Week 4 |
The Univibe pedal was developed in response to the Leslie and ADT sounds heard on recordings in the late 1960s. The Univibe is a unique vibrato unit which includes a processing box with manual controls and a foot pedal to control vibrato speed. Univibes were favored by Jimi Hendrix and Robin Trower as well as bluesman Stevie Ray Vaughan, and are part of the rock music legacy. Today's lick employs the Univibe effect to color a gutsy blues-rock line in C# minor. The melody is based on the C# minor pentatonic scale (C#-E-F#-G#-B) and exploits string bends and riff-like passagework. It was played on a Fender Jeff Beck Strat and a Uni-Vibe box with natural overdrive distortion from a Soldano SLO-100 amp and a vintage Marshall cabinet.
