Guitar F/X Licks - Thursday - Week 1 |
Our lick for Thursday is an example of the use of tremolo in the surf music genre. The instrumental combo genre, of which surf was a significant branch, began in the 1960s and embraced a variety of effects with tremolo at the forefront. This lick is based on two plucked arpeggios: A minor and G major. These chords are allowed to ring and shimmer with the tremolo effect. The controls are set to the maximum: speed and intensity at 100%. Tremolo is particularly ear-catching when playing a simple slow-moving and sustaining part which gives the effect plenty of room to be heard.
