British Blues Rock - Friday - Week 5 |
Our final lick is a gutsy metallic line that has both blues and funk roots. It is played over a funky Cm rhythm figure and appropriately uses the C Minor Pentatonic Scale (C-Eb-F-G-Bb) exclusively. The sound is colored with Wah-Wah and Univibe processing. The latter provides the swirling vibrato effect while the wah is used here as a tone boost for the mid-range. The latter is achieved by allowing the wah pedal to sit in a specific position of its throw boosting a particular frequency. The Wah-Univibe coupling is a vestige of the Jimi Hendrix guitar legacy while the pentatonic language and string bending tap into the core of all blues music.
