British Blues Rock - Thursday - Week 5 |
The Lick of the Day for Thursday has a familiar question-and-answer structure. The insolent string bends and simple pentatonic melody of bars one and two are replied to in the final measures with a fast pentatonic line. The latter uses a technique known as sequence, and involves the imitation of melodic material on different scale degrees-in this case in descending motion. The sequence is one of the most viable techniques in melody construction, and was a favorite approach of the metal guitar monsters of the 1970s. This lick is parked in the 9th position and exploits the C# Minor Pentatonic Scale.
