British Blues Rock - Tuesday - Week 5 |
Our lick for Tuesday is a wailing blues-rock guitar phrase. This is a high-register line that relies on two characteristic elements. The first is string bending. The bends in the opening measures are colored by vibrato and sustained by the power of the classic Les Paul-Marshall combination. The second element is the lead riff in bar three. This repeated figure is played in 16th-note rhythm and exploits a four-note pattern of A-G-E-G. The entire lick is derived from the A Minor Pentatonic Scale (A-C-D-E-G) and is played over the Mixolydian chord progression of A-G-D.
