Today's lick is a gutsy line which flaunts the soulful phrasing typical of the British blues-rock guitarists of the mid 1960s. Note the use of wide triplets (quarter-note triplets) throughout this phrase, which imbues the lick with its emotional rhythmic quality. This laid-back phrasing is a clear example of the British blues-rock players' desire to turn the electric guitar into a singing human voice. Vibrato and strategic pitch bends contribute to the effect. The lick is played in E and uses the E minor pentatonic scale (E-G-A-B-D) exclusively. It is a high-register melody performed in the 12th and 15th positions, and occurs over an A-to-E progression.
