70s Funk Blast - Wednesday - Week 2 |
Brothers Johnson style George (guitar) and Louis (bass) Johnson often mixed playing counter rhythms and unison lines to create some of the funkiest dance grooves in the '70s.
Today's lick is based on the E Minor Blues scale pattern (E, G, A, Bb, B, D). The lick starts on the 5th fret/5th string (A) and ascends to the 6th and 7th frets and back to the open 6th string (E). You continue by playing rhythmically on the 5th fret/5th string (A) before repeating the 1st part of the phrase. You resolve the entire phrase by playing major 3rd intervals starting on the 5th fret/5th string and sliding up one half-step at a time. Try playing to the unison bass line on looping jam track.
