70s Funk Blast - Monday - Week 2 |
Brothers Johnson style George (guitar) and Louis (bass) Johnson often mixed playing counter rhythms and unison lines to create some of the funkiest dance grooves in the '70s.
Today's lick is based on the E Mixolydian scale pattern (E, F#, G#, A, B, C#, D). The lick starts on the open 6th string (E), then a pull-off from the 7th to open note on the 5th string (A) and back to the 4th and 5th frets. The last part of the phrase ends with a descending octave run played between the 3rd and 5th strings using your 1st and 4th fingers. Try playing to the unison bass line on looping jam track.
