70s Funk Blast - Friday - Week 1 |
Parliament/Funkadelic style The guitarists for Parliament/Funkadelic would often play a counter rhythm and melody to the bass and drums. The orchestration of these rhythmic patterns produced a powerful percussive effect to the overall sound of the band while leaving space in the music for vocals and the soloists.
Today's lick is based on the E Minor Pentatonic scale pattern. The lick starts with a hammering from the 7th to 9th fret on 4th string (D) and then jumping to the 3rd string (G) using the same frets. The second phrase slides up one whole-step which takes you into the 2nd note (F#) of the E minor scale. You end the phrase by playing notes barred on the 10th and 12th fret on the 1st and 2nd strings. Try playing this pattern over the looping jam track.
