Today's lick is another heavy metal type of lick that you might hear guitarist Kirk Hammett from Metallica play. The lick is based on the E minor blues scale (root, b3, 4, b5, 5, b7). You'll start on the E note (9th fret, 3rd string) and descend the scale for two octaves, picking each note sharply. Striking the note hard with your pick helps give you a stronger tone and increased harmonic overtones.
