Guitarists Who Shaped the 80s - Tuesday - Week 4 |
Today's lick illustrates another side of guitar licks that shaped the '80s. Guitarists from bands like Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Queensryche, and Metallica were all well known for their loud, fast, ferocious licks along with pounding rhythm riffs all punctuated by massive amounts of overdrive or distortion. But they along with others from that era had another side. They would use ultra clean tones, sometimes with effects such as reverb, chorus and delay, producing very dramatic results. In the example below, effects were added to the clean guitar setting so you could hear and experience this type of guitar lick. As you learn this lick, notice the pick direction symbols at the top of the tab. (v = down stroke, ^ = up stroke)
