Today's lick will help you sound like guitarists Kirk Hammett from Metallica and Yngwie Malmsteen. This lick illustrates the use of the harmonic minor scale. The harmonic minor scale has an "eastern" and even "classical" sound to it. The scale steps are: root, 2, b3, 4, 5, b6, 7. An interesting scale as it combines minor intervals (b3, b6) with the major 7th. In the example below, you'll be playing a B harmonic minor lick over an F# chord.
