Guitarists Who Shaped the 80s - Tuesday - Week 3 |
Guitarists in the '80s like Kirk Hammett and Randy Rhoads, among many others, combined rock and classical influences into their music. In today's lick you'll learn a technique that fuses the two styles mentioned above. The first half of the lick, you'll be playing a F# natural minor scale ascending four scale steps at a time. You'll start by playing root, 2, b3, 4, then 2, b3, 4, 5 etc. Playing the scale tones in this manner gives you a classical type of style. The second half of the lick is the same only descending. Add heavy distortion, a hard pick attack combined with palm muting and you'll have the elements of the rock style.
