Progressive Rock Guitarists - Monday - Week 5 |
Today's lick uses a technique called "tapped artificial harmonics". By using the right hand index finger to tap one octave higher than the fretted note from the left hand, you create a "bell like" or "chimed" sound. Your right hand index finger should tap on the fret wire 12 frets higher than the note fretted by the left hand. This technique works well on both a clean and distorted amp settings. Since you'll be creating high frequency harmonics, your guitar pickup selector should be on the bridge pickup. In the example below, you'll be fingering chords with the left hand and tapping artificial harmonics with the right hand exactly 12 frets higher.
