Progressive Rock Guitarists - Thursday - Week 4 |
Today's lick is a scale that is sequenced in a pattern of four notes at a time. Using the E mixolydian mode, the lick starts off by playing the root, then the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th degree of the scale. This sets up the theme of the lick. You'll play the variation to this by playing the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th degrees of the scale. The next variation starts on the 3rd degree and ascends to the 6th of the scale. You'll keep this up 12 times as the lick continues into the 2nd octave. This is a great technique to learn and apply to any scale, even the pentatonic scale.
