Progressive Rock Guitarists - Monday - Week 4 |
Today's melodic theme and variation lick is played in the key of G minor, specifically the G Dorian mode which is the second mode in the F major scale. The notes in this mode are G, A, Bb, C, D, E, and F. The theme of this lick has two parts. The first part is the climbing unison bend on the 2nd and 3rd strings starting at the D note of the second string. The second part of the theme is the single note riff in the second measure starting at the 6th fret of the 2nd string. You'll use the same techniques in measures 3 and 4 to create a variation of the theme stated in the first 2 measures.
