Psychedelic '60s - Miller @ Monterey Pop Festival
The Moby Grape volunteered to be the first band to play on Saturday at the '67 Monterey Pop festival which featured bands like Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, Janis Joplin, Booker T & many others. This week will feature some of the first licks played at this historic event.
Today's Freddie King inspired lick follows the lick featured on Monday. It's kind of a east meets west type combination incorporating Jerry's Sitar influence with the blues. The lick is based on the A Minor Pentatonic scale pattern where you start by hammering from the 5th to 6th fret (3rd string) and playing notes on the 1st and 2nd strings (5th fret). You continue the lick by bending the 7th fret/3rd string and using notes on the 5th and 7th notes on the middle strings (3rd & 4th).
