Jazz Connection - Friday - Week 3 |
Today's lick is a bit more than a II-V-I melody. It is written especially for the last 4 bars of a jazz-blues in G. (Am7 for 1 bar, D for 1 bar and G7-E7-Am7-D7 which are two beats apiece.) Refer to my intro text for this weeks licks if you don't know the jazz-blues progression. The lick, played as "jazz 8th notes" starts with a simple A minor scale idea in the first bar going into an Eb melodic minor scale phrase over the D7 in the second bar. The final two bars, normally called the "turnaround" is a melody that outlines each of the four chords. Practice this line with the jam track, but only over the last two bars.
