Jazz Connection - Wednesday - Week 3 |
Today's lick is a more modern sounding II-V-I melody, this time written in the key of G. It uses an Am7 and D major arpeggios in the first bar. The second bar superimposes an Ab major arpeggio over the D7 for a tension effect. This line sounds good at any tempo and you can add effects such as slides and pull-off's to give it some class. Practice this lick over the jam track which is a II-V-I progression in G. (Am7-D7-Gmaj7) To play it over our jazz-blues in G wait until bars 9,10 and 11 to let it rip. Refer to my intro text if you don't know the jazz-blues progression. You experienced guys can transpose this lick to C and play it over bars 3,4 and 5 also.
