Jazz Connection - Monday - Week 2 |
This example is a pentatonic sequence that is intentionally interrupted part way through to surprise the listener and stay interesting. It's an A minor (C major) pentatonic that descends with a four-note sequence for the first 12 notes before switching to an eight-note sequence ending on low C. The line follows the common "blues" position shift from the 8th fret to the 5th. Be sure to play the C (9th note) with your fourth finger to get your hand into position for the remainder of the lick. Alternate pick the entire line at first. Later you can add pull-offs and hammer-ons and even bends to give it some attitude.
