Evolution of Jazz Guitar - Wednesday - Week 5 |
Current Jazz GuitaristsMike Stern (b. 1953) started to play the guitar at the age of twelve. Influenced by Hendrix, Clapton, B.B. King and jazz artists like, Bill Evans, John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, he decided to make music a career. He has performed with Miles Davis, Billy Cobham, Michael Brecker, Jaco Pastorious and David Sanborn to name a few.
Today's lick works over a V - I progression. Over the V chord (C7) you will be playing a half-whole diminished scale which creates an altered sound. The jam track moves fast, so you might have to practice this lick at a slower tempo to get it under your fingers.
